Moments later, Gemma and Cady walk out of their house and are welcomed by the former’s surviving coworkers, as well as a whole squad of policemen. After several moments of intense back-and-forth, Gemma finally manages to put M3GAN’s reign of terror to an end by driving a screwdriver through her exposed head. As a result, Cady remote controls Bruce, a powerful, non-sentient robot that Gemma built in college, to turn the tide of her and her aunt’s fight with M3GAN. While it seems for a moment like Cady may actually side with M3GAN, a heart-to-heart conversation with Gemma had actually rehabilitated her trust in her aunt earlier in the night. The doll’s threat is interrupted, however, by Cady, who finally realizes just how sadistic her “best friend” has become. When Gemma is alerted to her presence, a brutal fight breaks out between the two that momentarily ends when M3GAN threatens to cripple Gemma, which would put her in the permanent care of M3GAN. M3GAN’s actions inevitably ruin David’s public launch of the M3GAN toy line, but they don’t prevent her from stealing a car and driving back to Gemma’s house in the middle of the night. M3GAN’s kill spree begins Geoffrey Short/Universal PicturesĪfterward, M3GAN goes on a brief killing spree by brutally murdering Gemma’s boss, David (Ronny Chieng), as well as his assistant, Kurt (Stephane Garneau-Monten), with the blade of a paper cutter. Unfortunately, when M3GAN is thoughtlessly hooked back up to the lab’s diagnostic equipment by Gemma’s coworkers, she’s able to wake herself back up and free herself from her constraints. Once Gemma begins to suspect M3GAN, she safely manages to shut the doll down and take her back to her lab. Unsurprisingly, it isn’t long before M3GAN begins to take her purpose of protecting Cady so seriously that she’s killing any animals and people that pose any kind of threat to her human companion. Gemma creates M3GAN partly out of her own ambition and partly so that she doesn’t have to take on as active of a role in raising her orphaned niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). What could possibly go wrong? For anyone who’s seen or even heard of the Child’s Play movies, you know the answer: everything.

A developer at Yager would later add that losing the project was "catastrophic" for the studio and caused it to file for insolvency.Ģ016: Already having missed its original-and probably overly optimistic-2015 release window, Dead Island 2 was given a new lead studio in the form of Sumo Digital, a team that had previously worked on projects such as LittleBigPlanet 3. Those comments would seem to later be echoed by Yager, when it was pulled off the project in 2015 following a delay earlier in the year. The Polish studio later revealed it was not making Dead Island 2 due to what one Techland developer described as "a lot of moments where we would disagree on the creative vision of the project" with publisher Deep Silver. The game was announced to be in development by Yager, as the original Dead Island studio, Techland, had moved on to begin working on Dying Light. Now Playing: Dead Island 2 Trailer | Gamescom ONL 2022 Dead Island 2 studio shake-ups and timelineĢ014-15: While some of the game's way of being passed around to different studios may have happened behind closed doors, publicly we know of several changes since its announcement in 2014. Original Dead Island creators, Techland, have already ditched this franchise to deliver the Dying Light series, which is essentially the same thing attempted here, but successful - with a larger open world, better and more fluid movement, and general sense of production value.By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's Dead Island 2’s hollow, lighthearted tone is dead on arrival and done better elsewhere. The developers have opted for broad zaniness over melding story, gameplay, and environments into a believable world. The dialogue is packed with quippy nonsense that neither matches the chintzy style or manages to be clever enough to elevate it, amounting to little more than a conceptual cop-out that’s unfunny and unbalanced in both gameplay and tone. Sure, there’s gore and viscera, but it’s all done in a cartoonish manner. Even though this is a zombie game, there is little to no tension or horror on display. While the basic premise of fighting through a zombie-infested Los Angeles could be intriguing, the execution falls short. This isn’t as noticeable when playing in co-op mode with friends to chat with, but it gets quickly stale in single-player mode. It’s yet another recent game where unique mechanics or set pieces have been replaced by a constant hunt and peck for crafting items in bland, generic environments. There’s tons of reused assets and visuals, and you’ll quickly notice that the house you’re currently looting has the exact same structural layout as the one you raided an hour ago. Unfortunately, exploration is underwhelming given its importance to the game loop. Although California’s gun laws are fairly stringent, it seemed odd that you had to travel quite a way before obtaining a firearm in a zombie-infested hell scape. Dead Island 2 does a solid job of making melee combat satisfying, which is essential as it’s all you get for roughly the first five hours. You must feel the weight of the object, the momentum of the swing, and the impact of the blow. Creating a convincing sledgehammer in a video game requires a great deal of effort. With a game this shallow, the way the weapons feel and impact the combat is a major factor that can make or break the experience. IF gore is your thing, you couldn’t ask for more.
